The objective of the regional seminar was to encourage member states to sign and ratify the Istanbul Convention; to raise awareness of its existence among members of parliament, NGOs, the media and professionals working in the field. The participants of the seminar were representatives of the government of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The government delegations from the following non-member states - Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kirgizstan and Uzbekistan also took part in the seminar.
Within the framework of the seminar the following issues were discussed: achieving gender equality and combating violence against women as well as recognising violence against women as one of the forms of a human rights violation.
The seminar was organised by the Council of Europe and UN Women – United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in cooperation with the Constitutional Court of Georgia and Inter-Agency Coordination Council on Fight Against Domestic Violence.
