Oath-Taking Ceremony of a newly-appointed Justice Ms. Eva Gotsiridze

On January 12, 2018 at 15.00 an Oath-Taking Ceremony of a newly-appointed Justice Ms. Eva Gotsiridze was held at the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

In accordance with Article 9 of Organic Law on Constitutional Court of Georgia, a member of the Constitutional Court shall take an oath prior to taking his position.

President of Georgia, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, and President of the Supreme Court of Georgia were invited to the oath-taking ceremony.

The event was opened by the President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Mr. Zaza Tavadze, addressing invited guests with a welcome speech. He wished a new member of the Constitutional Court a successful activity.

“I would like to congratulate Ms. Eva Gotsiridze on becoming a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia. Ms. Eva Gotsiridze graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. She occupied various positions before being elected as a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia -  she was a member of the High Council of Justice of Georgia; Advisor of the Supreme Court of Georgia in the Law of European Convention on Human Rights; Director of Human Rights Center at the Supreme Court of Georgia; a member of the Judicial Council of Georgia; Coordinator of International Relations and Secretary of Scientific-Consultancy Board at the Supreme Court.  She is a holder of PhD Degree in International Law. She leads a pedagogical and scientific activity. She is an author of a number of books, articles and publications related to the field of human rights”, noted Mr. Zaza Tavadze.

After oath-taking ceremony Ms. Eva Gotsiridze addressed the guests:

"This position is a great honor for me. I shall be faithful to the oath which I have taken. I shall refer to the Constitution as a guidebook while making any decision. I cannot imagine more honorable position for a lawyer than membership of the Constitutional Court of Georgia. Therefore, I will do my best in order to apply my knowledge and experience to this work“– stated Ms. Eva Gotsiridze.

Oath-taking ceremony was attended by the members of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia Ms. Nino Gvenetadze, Chairman of the Government of Ajara Autonomous Republic Mr. Zurab Pataridze and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ajara Autonomous Republic Mr. David Gabaidze.

Before being elected as a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Ms. Eva Gotsiridze occupied the following positions:  

  • Advisor of the Supreme Court of Georgia in the Law of European Convention on Human Rights (2005 – 2006);
  • Director of Human Rights Center at the Supreme Court of Georgia (2000-2005);
  • A member of the Judicial Council of Georgia (1997-2000);
  • Coordinator of International Relations at the Supreme Court.1994-1996);
  • Secretary of Scientific-Consultancy Board at the Supreme Court of Georgia (1992-1996);
  • Head of the Department of Generalizing Court Case law at the Supreme Court of Georgia (1996);
  • Senior Consultant at the Supreme Court of Georgia (1992-1996);

Ms. Eva Gotsiridze was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court of Georgia by the Parliament of Georgia at the Plenary Session on December 1, 2017.
