President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia meets with the President of the Venice Commission Mr. Gianni Buquicchio

On December 10, 2016 the President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia met with the President of the Venice Commission Mr. Gianni Buquicchio. The parties discussed the development of the Constitutional Justice in Georgia.  Mr. Gianni Buquicchio claimed that he will continue supporting independence of the Constitutional Court of Georgia in efficient administration   of the constitutional justice and promised the court a legal support in the framework  of the Venice Commission. President of the Venice Commission also expressed readiness for participation in the 17th Congress of European Constitutional Courts to be hosted by the Constitutional Court of Georgia in June 2017 in Batumi.

The President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia also delivered a speech at the 109th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission and talked about the importance of the Venice Commission’s  adopted opinion  regarding the amendments  to  the Laws on  the Constitutional Court of Georgia and thanked the VC Secretariat for their efficiency  and delivering  the  opinion in a very short deadline.  

The President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia emphasized a  significant  role of the Venice Commission in the development and strengthening of democracy, human rights and Rule of Law in the member countries, especially today when the constitutional justice faces  a number of challenges not only in Georgia but also in many  countries in Europe.   He also hoped that during his presidency an already existing tight and friendly  cooperation between the Venice Commission and Constitutional Court of Georgia will be further deepened.
