Georgia is based on the ideals of democratic governance, respect for human rights and the rule of law. The Constitutional Court is a body of constitutional review, striving to maintain and enhance these values in the State of Georgia. The Constitutional Court of Georgia has the power on the basis of Constitutional claims or submissions to eliminate those laws and normative acts, which do not comply with the Constitution. One of the main functions of the court is to protect the Human Constitutional Rights and Freedoms. The Constitutional Court of Georgia is also entitled to establish the following: Constitutionality of the elections and political parties’ activities; Consider disputes regarding separation of competences between legislative and executive bodies; Consider violations of the Constitution by the high rank officials.
Since its beginning, the Constitutional Court of Georgia has significantly contributed to the establishment of the legal culture of society as well as economic and other generally recognized values, therefore, fortifying the confidence of the society toward this Constitutional Institution.
