President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia meets with President of the European Court of Human Rights

President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, Zaza Tavadze, met with President of the European Court of Human Rights, Linos-Alexander Sicilianos, during his working visit to Strasbourg. 

During the meeting, the parties discussed the successful cooperation between the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, which has been developing for many years.

The meeting was also attended by Judge Lado Chanturia of the European Court of Human Rights, representatives of the European Court of Human Rights’ staff, Head of the Protocol and Public Relations Service of the Constitutional Court, Giorgi Lomtadze, and Permanent Representative of Georgia to the Council of Europe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Irakli Giviashvili.

The meeting positively noted the role of the Constitutional Court of Georgia in the process of protecting the supremacy of the Constitution and strengthening the rule of law in Georgia. The parties also discussed the high-level conference on environmental protection and human rights, which will be held in Strasbourg on April 9 with the support of Georgia as the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The event, which will be opened by Zaza Tavadze and Linos-Alexander Sicilianos, will be attended by senior human rights officials from the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

In addition, Zaza Tavadze invited Linos-Alexander Sicilianos to the International Congress of European and Comparative Constitutional Law in Batumi, which will be hosted by the Constitutional Court of Georgia in the fall of this year.

Zaza Tavadze is participating in an event in Strasbourg, at the invitation of the European Court of Human Rights, to mark the opening of the court's working year. The visit will end on January 31.
