The visit of the Delegation of the Constitutional Court of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia

On November 4-5, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Georgia headed by the President of the Constitutional Court Prof. Dr. Merab Turava paid an official visit to the Republic of Armenia. An official visit held with an official invitation of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia and was aimed at establishing a platform for mutual cooperation between the Constitutional Courts of Georgia and the Republic of Armenia.

In the frame of an official visit a meeting between the Presidents of the Constitutional Courts of Georgia and the Republic of Armenia was held. The meetings with expanded compositions of the delegation, Justices and representatives of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia was organized during the visit where the issues of the functioning of judicial review of the respective countries, as well as practical issues of the constitutional legal proceedings were discussed. In particular, the first session of the meeting was dedicated to the peculiarities of the institute of the individual constitutional complaint, whereas at the second session the effects of the decisions of the constitutional court and institutional dialogue between Constitutional and Common Courts were discussed.

On the second day of the visit, high-level meetings were held with the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. At the meetings a positive dynamics of already existing relationship between Georgia and the Republic of Armenia was highlighted and willingness to strengthen relationship in the field of judiciary was expressed.

In the frame of cultural-social events of the visit, delegation of the Constitutional Court of Georgia visited Matenadaran Manuscripts Institute as well as the Memorial of Genocide of the Armenians and paid tribute to the victims of the Genocide.

The delegation of the Constitutional Court of Georgia was comprised of the President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Merab Turava, Vice Presidents Teimuraz Tugushi and Vasil Roinishvili, as well as the Justice Giorgi Tevdorashvili, Head of Protocol and Public Relations Department Giorgi Lomtadze and a practicing lawyer Jivan Mkrtchyan.
