Congratulations on the 104th Anniversary of the Constitution of Georgia of 1921!
February 21 is a remarkable date in the centuries-old history of Georgia. On February 21, 1921 the Constituent Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Georgia unanimously adopted the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. The historical and legal legacy of the first Constitution serves as the foundation of Georgia’s statehood traditions and a guarantee for its future development.
The 1921 Constitution was an exceptionally advance document that fully aligned with the European legal traditions of that time. A clear manifestation of its progressive nature includes the constitutional guarantees of equality before the law, the abolition of class distinctions, women's suffrage, the elimination of the death penalty as a form of punishment, the affirmation of the principle of a secular state, as well as the protection of minority rights and other fundamental civil-political and socio-economic rights.
Current Constitution of Georgia is based on the historical and legal legacy of the 1921 Constitution, which continues to serve as a cornerstone for the future development of our state.
Congratulations once again on the 104th Anniversary of the Constitution of Georgia of 1921!
