Opening Ceremony of the Summer School on “The Protection of Human Rights through Strategic Litigation at the Constitutional Court of Georgia”

Today, President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Prof. Dr. Merab Turava participated in the opening ceremony of the Joint Summer School of the Constitutional Court of Georgia and Free University Tbilisi on the topic of “The Protection of Human Rights through Strategic Litigation at the Constitutional Court of Georgia”. The event was held at the Hotel “Hilton”, Batumi.

Participants of the School were addressed by the President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Prof. Dr. Merab Turava and the Dean of the School of Law of Free University Tbilisi Revaz Khoperia.

The Summer School course covers a range of topics, including the significance of the strategic litigation at the Constitutional Court; selection of the cases for the strategic litigation and drafting of constitutional complaints; consideration of cases at the Constitutional Court; legislative framework of the Constitutional Court and existing practice; the status of the Public Defender of Georgia and its strategic constitutional proceedings, amicus briefs and their role in strategic litigation.

In the framework of the Summer School moot court sessions will be held.

The Summer School will be completed on September 9.

This year, the Summer School was held for the sixth time in cooperation with Free University Tbilisi, which is supported by USAID/PROLoG grant.
